Term 2 Week 5

On Tuesday, we had some very unusual guests visit our classroom. Can you guess who they are?

Nemo and Bruce

Nemo and Bruce playing with R.

Nemo just clowing around.

Our practise for our assembly item continued all week. However, on Ms H let us take a break one afternoon to kick the football on the oval.  Some of us chose to play in the sand instead. It was great fun.

Finally Friday came and we were presenting our assembly item Waltzing Matilda. Everyone was watching, and we were dressed up in our Australian clothes. We sang really well and had lots of fun too.

I apologise as we are unable to upload the video at this time.

Please enjoy watching our assembly item.

Term 2 Week 4

Learning Waltzing Matilda

Our class was very busy learning 'Waltzing Matilda' for our assembly item.

We even sang it outside in groups, and we sang it on the basketball courts. We sang it everywhere, until we knew the song without looking at the words.

Term 2 Week 3

The highlight of week three was of course our excursion to Waterfall Gully Farm. The Year 2 class would like to thank Mr S and Ms G for allowing us to visit their farm and for making it an awesome day.

We are on our way.

These are some of B's cows.

We found a skull with horns.

Riding the pony.

Hay bale fun. We played on the hay bales.

Our school bus.

Our new student 'Smiggles'.

Fun in the cart. Smiggles loved it.

Smiggles forgot that he had four paws of his own.

The picnic area.

Here comes an awesome throw. We got to throw balls at water bottles that were perched on the tree branch.

Look at those horns.

Cows and their calves.

Enjoyed the view from the rocky hill.

We made it to the top.

Lunch overlooking the farm.

Ms H's Terrific Two's.

We had a great day at the farm. We climbed hay bales, rocky hills, fed animals and collected chicken eggs, just to name a few things. Everyone had so much fun and we also learnt a little about life on a farm. We were all very tired by the end of the day. Thank goodness for the weekend.

Term 2 Week 2

Wow what a busy week we have had. In Maths we have been continuing to learn about Place Value. We use MAB blocks to help us.

In Literacy we have continued to build our minuetes in our Work on Writing, or WOW as we call it in class. We enjoy being able to choose what we write.

We have also been learning about Recounts. We have learnt how to use a 'planning sheet' to help us when writing our Recounts.

We are looking forward to finishing our Recounts next week.

Welcome to Term 2

Welcome to Term 2. We all enjoyed our holiday and are now looking forward to an exciting term of learning.

In Literacy, we have been learning about 'silent letters', for example, know has a silent 'k'. We have brainstormed many other words too. We have also learnt Work on Writing. This is where we are able to have free choice of what we write. We have to work quietly, stay focused on our writing and build our stamina (how long we work for).

In Maths, we are learning about Place Value. Some of us have been using Place Value to help us 'decompose' numbers. Below is an example of some of our work.

Term 1 Week 6 & 7

We all enjoyed the long weekend in Week 6 and had lots to share when we returned on Tuesday.

We learnt that insects have three body parts, the thorax, abdomen and head. They also have jointed legs. We called our ant Anty Ant.

In Maths we have learnt about symmetry. We used mirrors to see the other side of a shape. We also painted symmetrical pictures that we have turned into butterflies.

Term 1 Week 5

In week 5 we learnt that there are different ways that we can read a book. We also learnt to Read to Self.

When we Read to Self, we need to be quiet, sit in one place, and to read on our own.

We found out, in Religion, that God trusts us to make good and right decisions.

We discovered that books fit us just like shoes do. That we wear shoes that fit us, so we should read books that fit us too. We also know that we wear different shoes for different purposes and we read a variety of books for different reasons. If some books don't interest us, there are still plenty for us to choose from that will. We can read for enjoyment and to learn.

I Pick Good Fit Books

We made some awesome Mini Beasts in Art with Mrs Connolly.
